ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Xenia, OH – 32,000 sf

K4 Architecture + Design is proud to partner with Greene County Public Library on the full renovation and modernization of the Xenia Community Library, the first comprehensive, down-to-the-studs renovation of the facility since 1978. Driven by extensive community feedback, the $8.7 million project reimagines the 32,000-square-foot library as a bright, welcoming hub for creativity, learning, and connection.

The design focused on expanding key community priorities: a larger children’s area, an expanded Spark Place makerspace, more natural light, and greater accessibility. The Spark Place has now doubled in size, it empowers visitors to explore ideas hands-on with cutting-edge tools like 3D printers, laser cutters, and recording studios. The children’s section and flexible gathering spaces foster imagination and connection for all ages. Limestone panels once enclosing the building were replaced with expansive modern windows and triangular reading alcoves, while the new main entrance at Market and Whiteman Streets offers a warm, accessible arrival experience. Inside, glass walls and open sightlines bring energy and transparency to the space, encouraging collaboration and discovery.

Reopened in 2025, the revitalized Xenia Community Library truly reflects its nickname as “the public’s living room” a place where every visitor feels at home and inspired to learn, create, and grow.
